Not every face reveal involves a streamer. One of the biggest “face reveal” searches of 2026 is about a fictional character: Imu, the shadowy ruler behind the World Government in Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece. For years Imu was shown only as a silhouette. Chapter 1179 finally showed the face.

What does chapter 1179 reveal?
Chapter 1179 shows Saint Nerona Imu’s face for the first time. The design includes two long horns and dark skin, which readers quickly connected to the Lunarians, the near-extinct race tied to the series’ ancient history.
The chapter also shows more of Imu’s power. Imu has “The Devil’s Fruit”, written differently from every other devil fruit in the series, which hints at something unique. When Imu arrives in Elbaph, the surroundings become twisted and corrupted, with trees and buildings seemingly possessed.
Why fans waited so long
Imu was introduced in 2018 as the hidden figure sitting on the Empty Throne, a seat no one is supposed to occupy. Oda kept Imu in shadow for eight years, which turned “Imu face reveal” into one of the longest-running questions in the fandom. The reveal in the Elbaph arc is widely read as the start of the manga’s endgame.
Imu and Luffy: a dark mirror
Commentators have pointed out a parallel between Imu’s powers and Luffy’s Gear 5. Luffy’s awakening spreads joy and freedom around him; Imu’s presence spreads a distorted, “cheerful” agony. It sets Imu up as the direct opposite of everything Luffy stands for.
